Hazy. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in July of 1973. Shown here (F to R) is Penn Central engine #6188 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. #6188 is an SD45 built by GM-EMD for the Pennsylvania Railroad in December of 1967 and rated at 3,600 horsepower. They're being returned to East Altoona for further assignment after helping/pushing a train up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin. At the right is a mixed-cargo freight train that has either stopped or stalled on its way up "The Mountain." Photo taken from the 24th Street Bridge. Wave to the Engine Crewmen! |
